Selected Awards and Achievements
Receiving an award for Flash Fiction from Tim Stevenson |
My main writing achievement so far is a "Highly Commended" award in the Bridport Flash Fiction Competition (please click here for the winners list). This award earned me publication in the Bridport Prize Anthology.
When the anthology was published, I was honoured to receive the following responses from Kit de Waal (who won the Bridport Flash Fiction Competition two years in a row, 2014-2015).
Lovely responses from Kit de Waal :) |
Other achievements in the Bridport Prize Competition:
- 2015 — shortlisted for flash fiction.
- 2017 — shortlisted twice for flash fiction and once for poetry.
Writing a million words
In 2016, I set myself the task of writing 1,000,000 words in a year — a project that involved producing an average of more than 2,700 words per day. I completed the task which gained me drafts of several new novels, as well as over 300 short stories and works of poetry and flash fiction. To help me stay focused on the project, I documented it here: "A million words in 2016".The Casket of Fictional Delights
My flash fiction pieces "Sync" and "Floating" won 2nd and 3rd prize respectively in the Casket of Fictional Delights competition 2018, judged by renowned flash fiction author, David Gaffney. Professional audio recordings were produced of both pieces. "Floating" had previously been long-listed by the Bath Flash Fiction Award and Reflex Fiction.Saboteur Awards
My comic-horror novella "Grans & Ammo" was long-listed for Best Novella, Saboteur Awards 2016.50-word stories
My submissions to 50-Word Stories have received the following accolades:- "Head Case" won Story of the Month and went on to receive an honourable mention in the Story of the Year final (the 12 finalists having been selected from over 600 pieces published during 2015).
- "Five minutes until ‘I do’" and "Moving On" both won Story of the Month during 2016, and I received another honourable mention in the subsequent Story of the Year final.
- "One In, One Out" was chosen by Deepa Jacob as a basis for her short film, "Manu" and the film went on to win Deepa the Best Director Award at the 2016 FOKANA Film Festival.
